Omicron Chapter at Illinois Wesleyan University

Kappa Delta

Academic Excellence

Academics are a top priority for Kappa Delta. The sorority provides members with the resources they need to be their best.

Each chapter’s academic support program is customized by the chapter and its advisors. Programming options include study sessions, mentoring members in the same major, individual tutoring, incentives for good grades and more. Further, chapters hold an Academic Success Seminar at least twice during the year. Kappa Delta’s academic excellence focus is designed to grow with members throughout their college years, as their needs and areas of concern evolve.

The Kappa Delta Foundation supports our commitment to academics by awarding nearly $450,000 in graduate and undergraduate scholarships, leadership trainings, internships and professional development opportunities each year to Kappa Delta sisters across the nation. These scholarships have been made possible through gifts, funds and bequests to the Kappa Delta Foundation. Visit Kappa Delta’s national website for more information on scholarship opportunities and the application process.

The Academic Excellence program is intended to ensure that Kappa Delta, promotes academic success in its members and does not get in the way of any member’s studies, as well as to help them achieve their best academic selves. Kappa Delta Omicron Chapter requires its individual members to maintain a high academic standard in order to be on good standing with the sorority. Each member must maintain above a 2.75 GPA in order to remain on good standing. In order to strive toward this goal, the Academic Excellence program does several things to help members achieve their academic goals.

One way that all members are encouraged to work hard on their academics is by earning raffle tickets to be used in the Academic Excellence raffle at the end of the semester. Each week, members can fill out a survey about their academic performance and engagement and earn raffle tickets in return. Prizes awarded at the raffle include Kappa Delta spirit wear, IWU spirit wear, gift cards to local stores and restaurants, and more.

In addition to the raffle, all members are assigned to “study families” based on their majors or areas of study. These families are encouraged to study together and attend chapter-wide study tables and trivia nights in order to earn points for their family. Study family points are intended to foster healthy competition that will motivate each member to work hard toward their academic goals while also working together with other members who are taking similar classes. The study families are posted in the house, to help sisters identify others they can go to, to help in each specific subject.

The Academic Excellence Chair holds individual, confidential meetings in order to address any issues that may have affected their academic performance. She helps these members to identify ways they can improve their academic performance and reach their full potential.  Above and beyond these scheduled meetings, the Academic Excellence chair exists as a resource to assist any sister improve their performance in their classes.
